Two oyster reef areas reopened

 

BILOXI, Miss. – Two oyster reef areas reopened at legal sunrise today, Jan. 6, officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources said.

The reefs that reopened include:

Area II “A” Conditionally Approved Waters - This area includes northern portions of the Pass Christian and Henderson Point reefs and Hornets reef for tonging only.

Area II “C” Conditionally Approved Waters - and its subdivisions of II “E,” II “F” and II “G” - these areas include southern portions of the Pass Christian and Henderson Point reefs, Square Handkerchief Reef and northern portions of the Pass Marianne and Telegraph reefs.

All other areas will remain closed to the harvest of oysters. All other oyster harvest rules and regulations will remain in effect.

This order is in accordance with The Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources Title 22, Part 1 and the “Order Opening the 2013-2014 Limited Mississippi Oyster Season in Certain Waters Classified as Approved or Conditionally Approved by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources, and Placing Certain Restrictions on Oyster Harvesting Activities.”
