Shrimp season extended in some waters

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Wednesday that the 2013-2014 shrimp season will be extended in all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway in Mississippi territorial waters.

These waters will be open to shrimping beginning at 12:01 a.m. May 1, 2014, and will close at 6 a.m. May 10, 2014. All other Mississippi territorial waters remain closed to shrimping.

If, during routine shrimp sampling by the MDMR, there is an indication that large numbers of juvenile brown shrimp are moving into this area, the shrimp season may be closed earlier than 6 a.m. May 10.

All regulations set forth in ordinances of the MDMR will be in effect, and all boats engaged in catching or transporting shrimp in or from state waters must be legally licensed.

The order is made by virtue of the authority vested in the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources under the provisions of 49-15-15 Mississippi Code of 1972 Annotated.
